Personal Profile

Dr Esther Unitt graduated from medical school at Nottingham University, and underwent higher specialist training in Gastroenterology and Medicine in East Anglia, obtaining MRCP in 1998 and CCST (Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training) in 2006.

Most of her postgraduate training took place at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, including several years on the Liver Unit where her research on the Liver Unit led to the award of a Doctorate in Medicine from Nottingham University in 2007.

She has been a Consultant Gastroenterologist at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust since January 2007 and was elected FRCP in 2011. Dr Unitt is the clinical lead for alcoholic liver disease and the lead for gastroenterology undergraduate education. She has an interest in research and is the Hepatology Lead for the West Midlands (South) CLRN (Comprehensive Local Research Network).

Dr Unitt can be seen through the NHS (National Health Service) or privately.

If your GP is willing to refer you as an NHS patient, appointments at University Hospital, Coventry are accessed through the ‘Choose and Book’ system which is designed to offer the earliest appointment, to keep waiting lists down, and accordingly, the choice does not extend to choosing the consultant you want to see.

Dr Unitt offers personal private appointments  at BMI The Meriden Hospital, which is Coventry’s only private hospital, and is located within the grounds of University Hospital.
